US President Donald Trump met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House as part of an official visit to the United States. During their meeting, Trump reiterated his determination to reach a trade agreement with the European Union (EU), stating, “Of course there will be an agreement. They want it very much. We will make a fair agreement.”
When asked about Europe’s position in his trade priorities, Trump responded, “Not everyone is on my list of priorities.”

Regarding NATO obligations and defense expenditures, Trump expressed satisfaction with Italy’s commitment to reaching the 2% target for defense spending.
Italian Prime Minister Meloni expressed openness to cooperation with Trump and emphasized the importance of transparency and mutual needs in trade agreements with Europe. Meloni extended an invitation to President Trump for an official visit to Italy, emphasizing the desire for a strong partnership.
In response to questions about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visits to European countries, Trump confidently stated, “No one can compete with us.”
Both leaders discussed the importance of finding a middle ground in trade agreements for the benefit of all parties involved. Meloni stressed the need for stronger partnerships and a focus on mutual interests in trade negotiations with Europe.
