Memorial Service for Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi at the White House

A memorial ceremony was held in Lafayette Park in front of the White House for Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was tragically killed by Israeli soldiers during a peaceful demonstration in the occupied West Bank. The ceremony was attended by Eygi’s father Mehmet Suat Eygi, her sister Özden Bennett, her husband Hamid Ali, and many other relatives, as well as US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.
During her speech at the ceremony, Congresswoman Tlaib, who is of Palestinian origin, criticized the Israeli government for not taking responsibility for Eygi’s murder and condemned the Joe Biden administration for failing to order an independent investigation into the incident.
Tlaib stated, “When it comes to the Israeli government killing Americans, their words are a complete lie.” She called for justice for Eygi and demanded an independent investigation into her death.
Eygi’s husband, Hamid Ali, expressed his disappointment with the Biden administration for not holding Israel accountable for Eygi’s death. He questioned the delay in seeking justice and mentioned other American victims of Israeli violence.
Eygi’s sister, Özden Bennett, described Ayşenur as a young activist who was passionate about fighting for justice. She emphasized the importance of seeking justice not only for Eygi but also for other victims of Israeli violence.
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was a human rights activist and volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement, dedicated to supporting the Palestinian cause through peaceful means. She tragically lost her life during the demonstration and was laid to rest in Didim district of Aydın.
The memorial ceremony served as a reminder of the ongoing violence and injustice faced by Palestinians and called for accountability for Eygi’s wrongful death. It highlighted the need for international solidarity and support for those fighting for justice and peace in the region.
