Businessman Overcomes Memory Loss by Learning to Read and Write Again
Berat Öztürk, a businessman who suffered from memory loss due to a brain hemorrhage, is on a mission to regain his lost memories and make his life easier by relearning how to read and write.
After the brain hemorrhage, Öztürk completely lost his ability to read and write, which made simple tasks like going to the market or bakery extremely challenging. He would often have to ask for products by describing them, as he couldn’t remember their names. However, with the help of reading and writing training, he has been able to gradually recover his ability to recognize and use words.
Speaking about his experience, Öztürk emphasized the positive impact of the training on his life. He spoke about the sense of accomplishment he felt when being able to read and write texts on his own, even if it was only to a limited extent. He expressed hope that he will continue to make progress and improve his skills in the future.
His classroom teacher, Hikmet Pala, shared the challenges that Öztürk faced when he first came to them, struggling to even express himself. Despite having been a university graduate, a reserve officer, and a successful business owner, Öztürk’s memory loss had affected him so severely that he had even forgotten how to talk.
Pala highlighted the remarkable progress that Öztürk had made in a relatively short period, noting that he had started to recover some of his lost memories as he learned to read and write. He expressed confidence in Öztürk’s potential to become fully literate in the coming months.
Through the process of relearning, Öztürk has not only been able to improve his ability to read and write, but he has also gained a new sense of socialization and independence. With the support of dedicated educators and his own determination, Öztürk is on his way to reclaiming his lost skills and memories.
