MEP Orbán discusses pro-war EP coalition with member Péter Magyar

European Parliament’s “Grand Coalition” Plan Escalation of War, Hungary’s MEP Csaba Dömötör Says

The recent votes in the European Parliament have confirmed that the “grand coalition” will continue with its war-related policies, despite ongoing peace talks, according to Csaba Dömötör, an MEP from Hungary’s ruling party Fidesz.

Dömötör revealed that the EP’s resolution includes demands for more weapons deliveries, authorization to strike Russian territory with Western weapons, and the expansion of European training missions into Ukraine. Additionally, the resolution proposes the establishment of a multi-billion euro fund for providing military support to Ukraine, with member states required to contribute 0.25 percent of their GDP, amounting to 200 billion forints (EUR 500.3m) in Hungary’s case.

Furthermore, the resolution condemns Hungary for vetoing a statement and seeks to eliminate the veto power, opting for majority voting instead. Dömötör expressed concern over the resolution’s lack of support for peace talks and criticized opposition MEP Péter Magyar for allegedly sponsoring the resolution and later denying involvement.

Dömötör accused Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar of lying regarding his association with the resolution, stating that Magyar’s name was listed on the document until recently and that he had the opportunity to vote against it. Dömötör emphasized that the resolution promotes sending more weapons to the battlefield, increasing war expenses, and limiting the veto rights of pro-peace countries.

He denounced the support for war-related actions in Brussels and emphasized that such decisions do not align with the views of the Hungarian population. Dömötör warned that the consequences of these decisions in Brussels will not remain confined to that region and urged transparency in decision-making processes.
