Meral Akşener bids farewell to her sister, Mualla Özen
On February 3, 2024, Meral Akşener, the chairwoman of the İYİ Party in Turkey, said her final goodbye to her beloved sister, Mualla Özen, in Kocaeli. Özen, who was 80, passed away after battling multiple organ failure in a Kocaeli hospital. Akşener, upon hearing the news, hurried to Kocaeli to be with her sister and accept condolences from well-wishers.
The funeral ceremony of Mualla Özen saw the attendance of numerous political figures and bureaucrats. Among those present were Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, AK Party Kocaeli Deputy Sadettin Hülagü, Fikri Işık, İYİ Party Grand National Assembly of Turkey Group Chairman Koray Aydın, İYİ Party Kocaeli Deputy Lütfü Türkkan, and others.
Following a prayer at the Gündoğdu Mosque, Mualla Özen was laid to rest after the afternoon prayer. The loss of Özen marks a somber period for Meral Akşener and her family.
