Friedrich Merz Re-elected as Chairman of the Party
Friedrich Merz has been re-elected as the chairman of the party at the 36th ordinary general assembly held in a hotel in Berlin. Merz was the only candidate and received 873 out of 971 valid votes, securing his position once again.
During his speech at the general assembly, Merz emphasized the theme of “Together, future and winning” for this year’s event. He mentioned that Germany has the potential to do better, but it requires effective management. Merz also pointed out the importance of reducing the time the country spends in opposition, citing historical examples.
Addressing the rise of far-right movements in Germany, Merz acknowledged that they have been underestimated for years. He highlighted the need to defend the country’s values and principles against such ideologies, especially those supported by external sources.
In terms of policy changes, Merz proposed replacing the current social aid program “Citizenship money” with a new system called “basic security.” This new system aims to support those in need while also encouraging individuals who are capable of working to contribute to society.
Merz expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their trust and support in re-electing him as the party chairman. With his renewed mandate, Merz is looking forward to leading the party towards a successful future.
