Meteorology Issues Yellow Code Warning for 26 Provinces Due to Heavy Rain Predictions

The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued a new weather report, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Turkey.

As the downpours continue to affect the country, precautions are being urged for the weekend. Heavy rain is expected in 26 areas, including Istanbul. The forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms in various regions such as the north and east of Marmara, the Taurus Mountains of the Mediterranean, and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Thunderstorms are expected to be intermittent and locally heavy in the Eastern Mediterranean, starting from noon in Mersin and in the afternoon in Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and Hatay. Residents are advised to be cautious and take necessary precautions against potential negative events such as floods, lightning, landslides, and disruptions in transportation.

In the Central Black Sea region, strong storms are expected at sea with winds blowing from different directions at high speeds. In some areas, winds may reach up to 90 km/h.

Furthermore, temperatures are forecasted to decrease by 2 to 4 degrees in the eastern parts of the country, while remaining around seasonal norms in the western regions. Heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas along the Eastern Black Sea coast, around Kırklareli, Ordu, Istanbul’s European side, Rize, and Artvin.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.
