Middle Corridor Sees 4.1 Million Tons of Cargo Transported in 11 Months

Cargo volume through the Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), saw a significant increase of 63% in the first 11 months of 2024, according to the Prime Minister’s press service. The total volume reached 4.1 million tons during this period, showcasing the route’s growing importance in international trade.

In addition to the increase in cargo volume, container traffic along the Middle Corridor also experienced a substantial growth of 2.6 times, reaching a total of 50,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The Middle Corridor now has a throughput capacity of six million tons annually, including 100,000 TEUs of container shipments.

To further enhance the infrastructure and functionality of the route, the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Coordination Center was established in 2024. This center aims to boost the competitiveness of the TITR and reduce delivery times between Europe and Asia to just 15 days. The participation of countries and companies from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and China emphasizes the route’s significance for global trade.

Meanwhile, in Kazakhstan, the focus is on improving the efficiency of domestic cargo transportation through the installation of automated measurement stations (AMS). By 2025, the country plans to have 220 AMS in place to monitor vehicle weight and dimensions continuously, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and maintaining the integrity of national roads. Currently, 45 AMS are already operational, with plans to integrate Sergek technology for automatic vehicle weighing of moving vehicles to further enhance the control system.

Overall, these developments highlight the ongoing efforts to strengthen transportation infrastructure and optimize logistical processes in the region, ultimately facilitating smoother and more efficient trade flows between Europe and Asia.
