Middle Eastern Makeover for “Curd Rudi”

The classic Hungarian dessert, chocolate quark bar (túró rudi), is making a comeback with a Middle Eastern twist. According to a report by World Economy, starting this week, the Dubai style quark bar will be available in Lidl stores.

Last Christmas, Dubai chocolate gained popularity in Hungary, competing with traditional treats like bejgli. Aldi, Lidl, and Auchan all rushed to release the Dubai chocolate, which later expanded into soft drinks and ice cream flavors.

Starting Wednesday, Lidl will start selling the Dubai chocolate quark bar. Mind Medical reported that the túró rudi is almost considered a national treasure in Hungary, but now it is coming in a new luxury version at Lidl. The new quark bar is flavored with pistachios and kadayif pastry, coated in dark chocolate.

Even the packaging of the dessert is special, with a green and gold design that makes it stand out on the shelves. Lidl is not only targeting its traditional customer base but also those who enjoy unique flavors and experiences, as well as TikTok trends.

The Dubai chocolate quark bar will be sold in 40-gram portions for 219 forints (0.53 euros). The dessert that popularized the Dubai chocolate trend, known as “Can’t Get Knafeh of It,” quickly became popular in 2024, thanks to TikTok trends and is now also made by local pastry shops.

In related news, Budapest’s Chimney Cake is debuting with exotic flavors, adding a twist to traditional recipes. The Kürtős Legenda company is introducing Budapest’s chimney cake with new and exciting flavors.

Overall, the Middle Eastern makeover of the túró rudi is set to bring a new level of luxury and taste to Hungarian dessert lovers. Don’t miss out on this new and exciting treat available at Lidl stores.
