Minister Bayraktar: Strong Commitment to Europe’s Power Outlet Standards

Large-Scale Power Outages in Spain and Portugal Discussed in Cabinet Meeting
The recent widespread power outages in Spain and Portugal took center stage during a Cabinet Meeting held yesterday. Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, briefed cabinet members on the situation and later addressed queries from the press regarding the implications for Turkey.
Bayraktar emphasized Turkey’s commitment to the European power distribution network, stating, "We are committed to the system of Europe." He reassured attendees that, so far, Turkey has not been affected by the outages, but acknowledged that this could change. "It is a distress that can affect us," he added, highlighting the interconnected nature of the energy systems in Europe.
The outages, which began yesterday, significantly disrupted daily life across Spain and Portugal. In the wake of these events, electricity has started to be restored in various regions, but the recovery is ongoing.
The situation remains fluid as the affected countries work to restore power and assess the underlying issues that led to these large-scale disruptions.
