Minister Fidan Urges UN Security Council to Work for Lasting Peace in Palestine
Minister Fidan recently addressed the UN Security Council meeting on Palestine in New York, highlighting the critical juncture the world is currently facing. He emphasized the importance of the path chosen by nations in shaping the world they want to live in.
During his speech, Minister Fidan expressed concern over the erosion of the rule-based order and the irreversible nature of this decline. He criticized the inaction of certain international actors in preventing the escalation of the conflict in Gaza to other regions.
Fidan called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, hostage and prisoner exchange, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and provision of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need. He stressed the need for the Security Council to exert real pressure on Israel to cease its acts of aggression.
Highlighting the Security Council’s failure to enforce its decisions on Israel, Fidan urged the council to take meaningful steps to ensure international peace and security. He warned of the dangerous direction in which the situation is heading due to Israel’s aggression and the targeting of Lebanon.
In a plea for lasting peace, Minister Fidan called for a two-state solution with an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. He emphasized that only through cooperation and a commitment to peace can regional stability and international order be preserved.
Minister Fidan’s call for action was echoed in his participation in the Meeting of Türkiye-CELAC Quartet Foreign Ministers, where discussions on global issues and the joint declaration were held. Türkiye’s cooperation with regional organizations like CELAC underscores its commitment to fostering relationships with Latin America and the Caribbean.
