
Minister Hakan Fidan and Algerian President Tebboune Discuss Joint Policy Development

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan of Türkiye recently met with Algeria President Abdulmecid Tebbun, expressing a desire to enhance consultations on regional issues and develop joint policies between the two countries. Following his meeting with President Tebbun, Fidan expressed his delight at visiting brother Algeria and conveyed greetings from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During the high-level strategic cooperation meeting in Türkiye this year, Fidan mentioned that Algeria, under Tebbun’s leadership, has experienced significant economic development. He emphasized the importance of Algeria’s perspectives on international matters and the political landscape.
Highlighting Algeria’s role in ensuring stability in the region, Fidan praised the country’s capacity and facilities. He also commended Algeria’s performance as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Fidan underscored the strengthening relations between Türkiye and Algeria under the leadership of President Erdoğan and President Tebbun. He emphasized the mutual trust between the two countries and Turkey’s commitment to being a reliable friend to Algeria.
In discussions with Algeria Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and President Tebbun, Fidan highlighted the shared will to strengthen cooperation in various sectors such as trade, transportation, migration, and health. The Joint Planning Group Meeting held during his visit covered potential steps to be taken in these areas.
With a target of reaching a $10 billion trade volume between Türkiye and Algeria, Fidan emphasized the contributions of over 1000 Turkish companies in Algeria to the economy and employment. He expressed optimism about deepening economic relations through agreements on trade incentives and investments.
Fidan also mentioned that joint projects could be initiated in various areas, including the recent opening of the Consulate General of Türkiye. He assured that the Consulate General would provide excellent service to Turkish citizens and Algerians.
The discussions between Türkiye and Algeria also touched on international issues, including the situation in Gaza. Fidan reaffirmed the commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and advocating for a ceasefire.
Moreover, cooperation on other international matters like Libya and the Sahel region was discussed. Fidan expressed support for Algeria’s diplomatic approach to resolving regional issues peacefully.
The Minister’s visit to Algeria signifies a deepening of ties between the two countries and a commitment to working together on various fronts. The mutual understanding and shared goals between Türkiye and Algeria pave the way for enhanced cooperation and joint initiatives in the future.
