Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz Testifies as Witness in Isias Hotel Case
The ongoing Isias Hotel case at Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court has once again come into the spotlight. After a one-hour break, Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz, who was heard as a witness, emphasized that the possible caste demand has now become a national case, branding the incident a “massacre” with no possible defense.
Dursun Oğuz was the first to testify as a witness in the ongoing case. He began by emphasizing the government’s alertness to the earthquake that struck on February 6. Oğuz stated that a team was immediately dispatched to Adıyaman that morning and further teams were mobilized on February 7.
An experienced civil defender, Oğuz revealed that he received extensive training in both the Republic of Turkey and the USA, venturing to Adıyaman in an effort to put his professional knowledge to use.
Upon arriving at the wreckage site, Oğuz described a scene of devastation. The building was no longer inhabitable, with only one person miraculously surviving. Oğuz expressed deep remorse and a sense of culpability, acknowledging the failure to assess the wreckage and offering a heartfelt admission of guilt.
Despite the valiant efforts of four dedicated teams to rescue survivors and retrieve bodies from the rubble, Oğuz ultimately painted a grim picture of the building’s condition. He emphasized that the building was unfit for use as it had been converted from a residential space into a hotel, devoid of life and lacking the structural integrity that could have saved lives.
Minister Oğuz expressed hope in the Turkish justice system’s ability to deliver a just outcome, while also condemning the building’s owners for falsifying information and neglecting their responsibilities to the victims. He maintained that the tragic incident highlighted the pressing need for justice and proper accountability for those involved.
