Minister of Justice Tunç Responds to Agenda Questions

Minister Tunç recently announced that the discussions on the 9th Judiciary Package have been completed in the TBMM Justice Commission. In a statement made early on Friday morning, Tunç expressed his appreciation to all commission chairmen, members, and MPs involved in the process. The 9th Judiciary Package covers a wide range of topics, with over thirty articles aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of judicial services.
One of the key aspects of the package is the inclusion of regulations on alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, as well as measures to expedite the resolution of legal cases. Additionally, the package addresses issues related to combating crimes committed on social media and through the press, with a focus on minimizing insult crimes. There are also provisions on procedural matters, enforcement disputes, and electronic sales within the judicial system.
Regarding the controversial issue of women’s surnames, Minister Tunç clarified that the existing regulation, where a woman takes her husband’s surname upon marriage and can also use her maiden name if she wishes, has been preserved. The package also addresses regulations that were previously annulled by the Constitutional Court, including those related to civil code provisions.
In response to questions about the recent murder of Ata Emre Akman, Minister Tunç described the crime as brutal and emphasized the importance of ensuring that such incidents do not occur in the country. He highlighted the importance of the independent and impartial judiciary in delivering justice and mentioned the ongoing judicial process in the case.
Further discussions were held regarding a car accident involving the daughter of former Red Crescent head, Kerem Kınık. Minister Tunç emphasized the need for any errors in the legal procedures to be corrected through objection, allowing for a fair and just resolution to the case.
Overall, the 9th Judiciary Package aims to enhance the judicial system, protect the rights of citizens, and promote a fair and efficient legal process in Turkey.
