
Minister of State Emphasizes Importance of Media Networks in National Policy

Hungarian National Policy Unimaginable without Media
The Minister of State for National Policy at the Prime Minister’s Office stressed in Visegrád, Hungary the importance of Hungarian media in the national policy. Árpád János Potápi spoke at the third Carpathian Basin Hungarian Media Meeting, emphasizing the crucial role that Hungarian media plays in shaping the national policy.
Potápi noted the significant progress made in recent years, stating that national policy is now an alliance of networks. He highlighted the creation of a media network over the past 30 years, continuously strengthening it to serve the country’s policy needs.
Speaking about the establishment of modern national policy in Hungary, Potápi pointed out the creation of new legislative frameworks and the adoption of the Dual Citizenship Act in 2010. He also highlighted the Hungarian government’s diaspora policy, which is being observed and adopted in many countries around the world. The government aims to reach Hungarians worldwide by combining traditional and online tools.
Tamás Toót-Holló, President of the Hungarian National Media Association, addressed the changing media landscape, emphasizing the shift to short film productions. He mentioned that print media are “dying” and have become a tradition passed down for legacy’s sake, especially for older generations. Toót-Holló discussed the rise of short videos and the substantial influence of platforms like TikTok.
Katalin Szili, the Prime Minister’s chief advisor, emphasized the importance of quality journalism amidst the competition from various media platforms. She highlighted the difference between neoliberal and national journalism, pointing to the significant passion and dedication to the nation represented in national journalism.
The discussions at the meeting shed light on the changing dynamics of media and the evolving role of Hungarian media in shaping national policy. The event served as a platform to address the challenges and opportunities posed by digital media platforms and to underscore the significance of maintaining quality journalism in the country.
