Minister Özhaseki: Euphrates River Free of Pollution
Minister Özhaseki: No Pollution Found in the Euphrates After Landslide in Erzincan
Following the tragic landslide that occurred in a gold mine in Erzincan and resulted in the loss of 9 lives, Minister Özhaseki reassured the public that no pollution has been found in the Euphrates River. In a working meeting held at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Özhaseki provided an update on the situation and measures being taken.
He stated, “Our Minister of Internal Affairs and our Minister of Energy are currently in Erzincan. It is an environment where a tremendous mass is shifting. Naturally, 9 of our brothers are there right now. It is underground. There is a tremendous search work. There is a screening work. The issue of whether the hazardous waste there reaches the Euphrates is very important. All the technical facilities we have have been sent to the region. Our vehicles are also there. Our analysis laboratories are there. We also take samples from there and send them to independent laboratories. Thank God, this is good news; so far, no pollution or an event that we fear has been encountered. But we are monitoring it instantly. Hopefully, these follow-ups and the measures we have taken there have made us all convinced that there is nothing to fear. But we will continue to follow it meticulously.”
Özhaseki further emphasized the need for urban transformation in cities with historical significance. He mentioned the importance of preparing these cities for the future with improved infrastructure and living conditions for the residents. He also provided updates on the ongoing efforts to rebuild houses and infrastructure following recent earthquakes, stating that approximately 307,000 houses are in the tender process or have had their foundations laid.
As the authorities continue to closely monitor the situation in Erzincan, the government remains committed to addressing the challenges faced by affected communities and ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents.
