Minister Reveals Over 2 Million Speed Penalties Challenged in 4 Months

Excessive Speed Remains Top Cause of Traffic Accidents, Minister Yerlikaya Reports
In a recent statement shared on social media, Minister of Interior Yerlikaya emphasized that excessive speed is the leading cause of traffic accidents. Drawing attention to the crucial need for road safety, the Minister urged drivers to prioritize safety over speed.
From January 1 to April 24, traffic teams conducted over 2 million inspections, with 1,992,787 of those transactions facilitated by Electronic Supervision Systems. “These figures underscore the importance of monitoring and regulating traffic to enhance road safety,” Yerlikaya noted.
The Minister also highlighted alarming statistics regarding traffic violations. Between April 17 and April 24 alone, safety and gendarmerie traffic teams inspected 3,641,525 vehicles. Within this period, there were significant infractions, including 162,064 speed violations and 29,068 instances of vehicles failing to undergo periodic inspections.
Additionally, 52 drivers were caught using vehicles with unauthorized luminous or voice warning devices, while 17,773 instances were recorded of driving without a proper license. Furthermore, 7,879 vehicles were found lacking compulsory financial responsibility insurance.
Yerlikaya stressed the dangers of ignoring speed limits: “Let’s not forget, speed does not gain us time; it takes away lives. Our priority must be safety, not speed.” As the government continues to enhance traffic control measures, the focus remains on fostering a safer driving environment for everyone on the road.
In light of these issues, authorities are reminding citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary accidents and ensure public safety.
