Minister Tekin Announces SSI Premium Study for Teachers in Private Schools

Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, recently attended the “Turkish Education Assembly Meeting” organized by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in Ankara. During his speech at the meeting, Minister Tekin highlighted the significant number of vocational and technical Anatolian high schools in the country. He stated that there are currently 2,403 of these schools, offering 53 fields and 114 branches of study, with a total of 1,092,536 students. Additionally, there are a total of 2,660 students studying in all institutions, including 1,291 who are currently enrolled in vocational high schools and Vocational Education Centers (MESEM).

Minister Tekin emphasized the importance of utilizing this large number of schools and students effectively to meet the country’s workforce needs and ensure a promising future for the students. He expressed his desire to further cooperate with relevant stakeholders in managing such a significant workforce and educational system.

The Minister also discussed the need to make vocational high schools more attractive to students, noting that by revising and improving these schools, they can become centers of attraction for students. He stressed the importance of providing attractive environments and employment opportunities for students after graduation. Minister Tekin assured that private education institutions are not seen as competitors by the Ministry of National Education but rather as partners in providing quality education.

Moreover, Minister Tekin addressed the issue of Social Security Institution (SSI) premiums for teachers in private schools. He assured the audience that measures are being taken to solve the problems faced by private educational institutions, including the payment of SSI premiums equivalent to those in the public sector.

M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB, also spoke during the meeting and highlighted the role of the private sector in improving the quality of education in Turkey. He emphasized that the private sector’s involvement would contribute to the development of human capital and increase the overall quality of universities. Hisarcıklıoğlu praised the work of the TOBB Turkey Education Council, which acts as a bridge between the private and public sectors, working to enhance the quality and sustainability of education.
