Minister Uraloğlu Confirms 5G Tender to Be Held This Year – Latest Announcement
The rapid development in the IT sector has led to an increase in the use of fiber on the fixed side and more spectrum on the mobile side, as well as the implementation of new generation communication networks such as 5G and beyond. According to the AA correspondent, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been pushing for the development of “domestic and national 5G” technology in Turkey, which is said to be approximately 10 times faster than 4.5G speed.
Turkey’s vision for 5G includes encouraging domestic manufacturing of mobile communication equipment and increasing the independence of technology to boost the local economy. BTK (Information and Communication Technologies Authority) is set to prioritize the policy and strategy proposal for the tender for 5G authorization, focusing on the technical infrastructure to be auctioned this year.
In addition, BTK is working on creating policy proposals for the development of new generation mobile communication technologies, aiming to abolish obstacles for the widespread use of “Small Cell” installations with 5G and to streamline security certificate processes. Changes will be made to the Devices Security Certificate Regulation to simplify certification processes and shorten measurement processes, ultimately benefiting consumers and enhancing electronic communication services.
Uraloğlu emphasized that the policies related to the technical infrastructure work and authorization process for 5G will be determined by the end of the year, indicating a significant step towards the implementation of 5G technology in Turkey.
