
Minister Yerlikaya Announces Major Drug Bust in 18 Provinces: Seizes 1.5 Tons of Drugs

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Announces Major Drug Bust Operation
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya took to social media platform X to share details about a recent operation that resulted in the seizure of a staggering amount of drugs. In a post, he revealed that a total of 1 ton 521 kg of narcotics, 11 million 936 thousand 886 pieces of cannabis and skunk root, and 4 thousand 544 narcotic pills were confiscated.
The operation, dubbed “NARKOÇELİK-33,” targeted drug manufacturers and sellers in 18 provinces across the country. A total of 63 poison dealers and street sellers were apprehended, with 46 of them being arrested. Legal proceedings are currently underway for the remaining suspects.
Coordinated by the Gendarmerie General Command KOM Department, the operations were carried out by various provincial Gendarmerie Commands, including those in Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Antalya, Bingöl, Kocaeli, and many others.
The Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command alone seized 1 ton 163 kg of cannabis, along with millions of cannabis and skunk roots. Similarly, other provincial commands like Şanlıurfa, Antalya, and Kocaeli also reported sizable drug confiscations and arrests.
Minister Yerlikaya commended the Gendarmerie for their successful operation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crime. He expressed gratitude for the Gendarmerie’s dedication and assured the public that efforts to combat drug trafficking will continue to intensify nationwide.
