Minister Yerlikaya reveals grim holiday balance sheet: First 4 days marred by pain
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Yerlikaya, has issued a new statement regarding holiday inspections, emphasizing the importance of road safety during this period. In a recent social media post, Minister Yerlikaya highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Traffic Police and Gendarmerie Traffic in conducting round-the-clock inspections.
On the 4th day of the Eid holiday, alarming statistics were reported from the inspections conducted on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. A total of 693 traffic accidents occurred, resulting in the tragic loss of 4 lives and injuring 1,302 individuals. Additionally, over 343,095 vehicles were inspected, with operations focusing on vehicle speed, radar, and other measures.
In a solemn note, the Minister expressed deep concern over the rising number of fatalities during the first four days of the holiday period, where 26 people lost their lives and 5,345 were injured. He extended his condolences to the families of those who passed away and wished a swift recovery to the injured individuals.
The primary objective of these inspections, as emphasized by Minister Yerlikaya, is to ensure the safe return of holiday-goers to their families. He urged the public to exercise caution on the roads, avoid speeding, wear seat belts in vehicles and buses, and adhere to traffic regulations.
