Ministry Announces Bag Price Update
In a recent statement released by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, it was highlighted that plastic bags were made chargeable as of January 1, 2019, in an effort to curb plastic waste pollution. After five years of implementation, plastic bags were eventually put on sale for 25 kuruş.
The Ministry also addressed a report circulating in a column today, stating that the information regarding the price of plastic bags was inaccurate. The Ministry clarified that during the Plastic Bag Commission meeting on November 21, feedback from sector representatives was gathered and discussions on the matter are ongoing. The Commission has not yet finalized a price for plastic bags, and the supposed price mentioned in the report was not raised during the meeting.
It is evident that efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability remain a top priority for the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. Stay tuned for further updates on the regulation of plastic bags in Turkey.
