Ministry of Environment Releases Contractor Qualification Regulations

New Regulation in Turkey Increases Financial Qualifications for Building Contractors

A new regulation titled “Regulation on Classification and Record Keeping of Building Contractors” has been published in today’s Official Gazette by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in Turkey.

The regulation aims to increase the financial qualification criteria of contractors by 50 percent. This adjustment is intended to ensure that contractors are only awarded projects that match their economic capacity, promoting a more sustainable and efficient construction industry.

Additionally, the regulation will reduce the size of work that new contractors can undertake by approximately 15 percent. A new approach based on experience will also be implemented in the criteria for selecting contractors for projects.

In a move towards promoting environmental sustainability, the regulation will also incentivize green transformation within the industry. Contractors who implement projects that receive a national green building certificate will be awarded an additional 5 percent in points.

Overall, the new regulation seeks to streamline the construction sector in Turkey, ensuring that projects are awarded to contractors who have the financial capacity and experience to successfully complete them. This initiative towards sustainable practices and efficiency is a step towards a more regulated and responsible construction industry in the country.
