Ministry of Youth and Sports: 96 Out of 100 Students Settled in Dormitory
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a statement refuting claims made by the Chairman of the Main Opposition Party, Özgür Özel, regarding the number of students accommodated in dormitories in Turkey.
According to the Ministry, Özgür Özel’s statement that only 13 out of 100 students in Turkey are in dormitories is false. The Ministry clarified that 96 out of every 100 students who apply for dormitories are accommodated in their facilities. In Istanbul alone, they provide accommodation for young people with 80 dormitory buildings in 35 dormitory directorates, with a total capacity of 60 thousand.
Regarding Özgür Özel’s claim about Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality not having any dormitories in Istanbul, the Ministry stated that there are actually 14 dormitories in the city, not 61 as claimed. These dormitories have a total capacity of 5231, with 4031 students currently accommodated and 1200 beds still available.
In conclusion, the Ministry emphasized that the comments and criticisms made by Özgür Özel do not reflect the truth and are aimed at deliberately misinforming the public. It is important to rely on accurate information when discussing issues related to student accommodation in Turkey.
