Ministry Protests Nevzat Bahtiyar’s Punishment

The Ministry of Justice has recently presented a case to the 8th High Criminal Court, calling for the trial to be transferred to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice. The case involves the crime of “deliberate killing against the child”, with defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar arguing that the punishment of “destroying, concealing, or changing” does not apply to him.
According to the petition, Bahtiyar had contact with another defendant, Salim Guran, prior to the incident. Surveillance records show that Bahtiyar was in close proximity to the scene with other defendants and was considered a “joint perpetrator” of the crime.
Furthermore, Bahtiyar’s actions after the incident, including transporting the lifeless body of Narin Güran and hiding it in a stream, demonstrate a unity of ideas and actions with the other defendants. The fact that Bahtiyar did not report the incident to authorities for 17 days further supports this claim.
The petition argues that Bahtiyar should be punished for “deliberate killing against the child” under Article 82/1-e of the Turkish Penal Code, rather than the crime of “destroying, hiding, or changing”. The evidence presented suggests that Bahtiyar was acting in concert with the other defendants and should be held accountable for his role in the crime.
