Hungarian and Pakistani Foreign Ministers Discuss Strengthening Economic Relations
Hungary is making efforts to enhance economic ties with Pakistan, as highlighted by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó during his visit to Islamabad. The absence of any unresolved political issues or disputes between the two governments provides a conducive environment for boosting bilateral trade and cooperation.
Addressing the Hungarian-Pakistani Business Forum, Minister Szijjártó emphasized the significance of fostering economic relations and commended the mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs displayed by both countries. This lack of political hurdles paves the way for further collaboration in various sectors.
Water management was cited as an example, with Hungarian technologies already making a global impact from South-East Asia to Africa.
The Minister mentioned the stringent food safety standards in Hungary and the potential for sharing expertise in the food industry, particularly in seed development. Additionally, collaborations in medical technology, security printing, cyber security, and information technology were highlighted, showcasing the diversity of opportunities for partnership.
Furthermore, the successful investment of Hungary’s leading company, MOL, in Pakistan was underscored as a significant achievement in bilateral cooperation. Minister Szijjártó lauded MOL’s contributions to the energy sector in Pakistan and expressed optimism about future expansions and discoveries in gas fields within the country.
The strengthening of diplomatic relations, including the signing of agreements on visa-free travel, symbolizes the commitment to fostering closer ties between Hungary and Pakistan.
The Minister emphasized the importance of mutual respect, sovereignty, and dialogue in international relations, rejecting interference and divisive tactics. An agreement on cultural and archaeological cooperation was announced, highlighting the shared historical and cultural heritage of both nations.
In light of security challenges in their respective regions, both countries acknowledged the need for collaboration in counter-terrorism efforts. Minister Szijjártó advocated for extending trade benefits between the European Union and Pakistan to promote economic cooperation.
Wrapping up the discussions, the Minister celebrated the growing trade turnover between Hungary and Pakistan, showcasing the positive outcomes of various collaborative projects. He also highlighted humanitarian initiatives supporting Christian communities in Pakistan and opportunities for Pakistani students to study in Hungarian universities on scholarships.
