Mongolian Students Win ‘Best in World’ Award in Cambridge Science Competition
Mongolia has once again made its mark on the global stage, this time in the field of science. A team from Shine Ue School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, has earned the prestigious ‘Best in World’ award at the esteemed Cambridge Upper Secondary Science Competition.
Defeating 270 teams from around the world, the Mongolian students triumphed with their groundbreaking research on the water quality of the Selbe River. Their investigation, which revolved around the impact of flooding on the water quality of the river, revealed a higher index score in August, indicating a negative influence of floods on the water quality.
The winning team’s success is a testament to their dedication and commitment to scientific research. Comprising Yalguun Ser-Od, Indranil Bazarragchaa, Munkh-Orgil Munkhjargal, Munkhkhusel Munkhtsog, Doljinsuren Uranmandakh, and Solongo Bayarbaatar, the students expressed their pride in utilizing the knowledge they gained from their Cambridge and IGCSE syllabi as the foundation of their successful scientific endeavor.
Their dedicated teacher, Tamir Surenjav, commended their mastery of various scientific techniques throughout the competition and revealed the school’s unwavering commitment to extend their study for more accurate data gathering and delve into the influences of urban life on water quality.
The Cambridge Upper Secondary Science Competition is an extracurricular initiative aimed at students aged 14 to 16, supplementing their academic studies by fostering practical skills and a passion for scientific research.
Rod Smith, Group Managing Director for International Education at Cambridge, expressed his admiration for the exceptional projects presented by the students. He underlined the university’s commitment to providing an education that equips students not only with short-term objectives such as higher education or job opportunities but also with the ability to make a positive impact and reshape the world.
Additionally, Mongolia shares this well-deserved honor with students from the Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy in Arizona, USA, who claimed joint ‘Best in World’ recognition alongside the Mongolian team.
