Mongolia to Build Metro Line in Ulaanbaatar to Address Traffic Congestion
In an effort to alleviate the traffic congestion in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia has announced plans to start building a metro line in 2024. This decision marks the first time that the government has committed to constructing a metro line in Ulan Bator.
B.Delgersaikhan, a cabinet member and chair of the National Committee on the Reduction of Traffic Congestion in Ulaanbaatar, revealed the details of the project during a press conference following a regular government meeting. The 22.3-kilometer-long metro line is set to run from the east to the west of the capital city, with construction expected to commence in May of next year. The project is projected to be completed by 2027.
The issue of traffic congestion has long been a prominent concern in Ulaanbaatar, as the city was originally designed to accommodate a population of 500,000 but is now home to around half of Mongolia’s total population of 3.4 million.
At present, buses are the primary mode of public transportation in the Mongolian capital. The introduction of a metro line is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and provide a more efficient and convenient means of transportation for the city’s residents.
The decision to build a metro line in Ulaanbaatar is a significant step towards addressing the city’s pressing traffic issue and improving the overall transportation infrastructure in the capital.
