Türkiye Affirms Commitment to Cyprus and Regional Stability
Recent reports from the Ministry of National Defense of Türkiye emphasize the country’s unwavering stance on its role as a guarantor of peace in Cyprus. The ministry reiterated that Türkiye will not hesitate to exercise its rights as a guarantor country, highlighting that national interests in the Mediterranean and Aegean are non-negotiable.
The ministry sources have noted a disturbing increase in hate speech against Turkish Cypriots, warning that the resurgence of the EOKA terrorist mentality undermines international law and the rights of the Turkish Cypriots. These developments, according to officials, strengthen the argument for a two-state solution in Cyprus.
"We will continue to serve as a guarantee of peace and security in Cyprus, adhering to international agreements and legitimate rights stemming from international law," stated a spokesperson from the Ministry.
Türkiye’s Stance on Syrian Territorial Integrity
In addition to Cyprus, the Ministry addressed the ongoing situation in Syria, asserting that the country’s territorial integrity and political unity remain a fundamental priority for Türkiye. They warned against any attempts to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, emphasizing that the disintegration of Syrian territory and government structure is unacceptable.
"We oppose any actions that threaten the unity of Syria, including the activities around the Tişrin Dam," officials declared, stressing the importance of maintaining stability in the region.
Clarification on Alleged Arms Transfers to Pakistan
Amid rising tensions in South Asia, the Ministry addressed claims regarding Türkiye’s alleged arms shipments to Pakistan. They confirmed that reports mentioning six aircraft filled with weapons were incorrect, attributing the planes’ landing in Pakistan to a routine fuel stop.
“The speculative news regarding our military actions should not be taken seriously unless corroborated by the Ministry’s authorized representatives,” the statement clarified. The Ministry expressed concern over the escalating military tensions between Pakistan and India, urging both nations to resolve their differences through diplomatic means.
Türkiye-US Defense Cooperation
On the defense front, sources confirmed that a High-Level Defense Group Meeting between Türkiye and the United States was held on April 28, 2025. The meeting aimed to enhance defense cooperation and reaffirm the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Discussions focused on regional and international security issues, confirming a mutual commitment to strengthen collaboration in defense and defense industry sectors, with plans to host the next meeting in the U.S. next year.
Clarification on Medical and Legal Terms
Finally, addressing recent questions about legal terminology from the defense ministry, officials clarified that the term ‘agent’ refers to ‘administrative agent’—a legal designation for public officials acting on behalf of the state. This term encompasses a variety of public servants, including civil servants and military personnel, and is commonly used in legal literature.
