Murat Ongun’s Prosecution Statement in IMM Corruption Investigation Revealed

The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into President of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem Imamoglu and 99 suspects for various charges including being a part of a criminal organization, bribery, fraud, seizing personal data, and tampering with tenders.

During the investigation, Ongun, who is accused of managing media operations, denied any involvement in criminal activities and stated that he did not want to benefit from any regret provisions as he claimed not to be a member of the alleged organization.

Ongun defended himself against allegations of receiving financial support from journalists, stating that he was of journalist origin and would not engage in such activities. He also refuted claims of distributing money illegally, insisting that the municipality only supports media organizations through official advertising channels.

Regarding his role in the valuation of advertising areas within the municipality, Ongun clarified that he did not have any supervisory duties over irregularities in advertising business operations. He also pointed out that Media Aş, the company involved, was a small entity.

The investigation also involves individuals such as Necati Özkan, Fatih Keleş, Murat İlbak, and Mustafa İlbak, with prosecutors looking into their connections and activities. Ongun stated that he did not recall specific details of meetings with these individuals and considered them to be normal interactions.

As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will handle the allegations against Imamoglu, Ongun, and the other suspects involved in the case.
