Muslera’s statement unveils Flash’s contribution to $80 million success
Uruguay national football team goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has accused Denizbank of embezzlement, after investing 1.2 million dollars and being unable to recover 500,000 dollars of it. Muslera claims that he was contacted repeatedly by Denizbank in 2022 for investment opportunities, and was convinced to invest in a fund by its branch manager, Seçil Erzan, who claimed that it had “high returns” and was managed by Hakan Ateş and Mehmet Aydoğdu. However, despite promises that he would receive returns on his investment within 1.5 to 2 months, Muslera was unable to recover his funds, and eventually only received 700,000 dollars of the principal investment.
Muslera’s lawyer, Dr. Rezan Epözdemir, claims that this constitutes the crime of embezzlement, and has demanded that the BRSA (Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency) be notified. The case is ongoing.
This is not the first time that Denizbank has faced accusations of financial mismanagement. In 2021, former employees of the bank were found guilty of manipulating the bank’s financial reports. And in a separate incident, a fund manager was held hostage for three days by shareholders angry over losses suffered in a fund managed by Denizbank.
