President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Unveils Plans to Enhance Regional Development in Kazakhstan
During the fourth meeting of the National Kurultai (Congress) on March 14 in Burabai, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented key initiatives aimed at strengthening regional development in Kazakhstan. The focus was on tourism, sports infrastructure, and environmental conservation.
Tourism was highlighted as a significant driver of growth for Kazakhstan’s regions. The President emphasized the importance of hosting national and international events to enhance the tourism potential of different areas. One upcoming event, the Commonwealth Fair in Taraz, is expected to attract artisans and farmers from various countries, fostering economic ties and promoting the city as a trade and cultural center.
In terms of environmental conservation, Tokayev addressed the need to protect biodiversity in Kazakhstan. Legislative measures were put in place in 2019 to combat poaching and protect wildlife, leading to positive results in the saiga population. Efforts are also underway to restore the population of the Turan tiger and snow leopard, while initiatives to protect other unique animals such as the Caspian seals and pink flamingos are being pursued.
The President also discussed the development of Burabai and regional tourism, emphasizing the importance of effective implementation of plans, infrastructure development, and providing tourist services that meet international standards. The construction of a new Congress Center in Burabai is expected to boost the region’s appeal to tourists, with investments allocated for the development of the resort area and other recreational sites.
Regarding sports infrastructure, Tokayev highlighted ongoing efforts to build facilities across the country and expand programs for children’s development. Projects such as the National University of Sports in Astana and sports complexes in various regions are underway, with a focus on promoting physical activity and sports engagement.
