National Policy Implementation: No Turning Back
President Ersin Tatar emphasized the correct policy being implemented on the Cyprus issue, stating that it has strengthened the basis for this policy and increased the importance and value of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). In a video speech given during an event organized by the Cyprus Peace Operation 50th Anniversary Celebration Association, Tatar expressed gratitude to the motherland, the Republic of Turkey, and the Turkish Armed Forces for their continuous support to the Turkish Cypriots.
Reflecting on the significance of the Cyprus Peace Operation and the freedom it brought to the Turkish Cypriots, President Tatar credited the operation for preventing Cyprus from becoming a Greek island. He paid tribute to the late President of the Republic of Turkey, Bülent Ecevit, and Deputy Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan for their roles in the operation and expressed gratitude to the veterans.
President Tatar highlighted that the Republic of Turkey serves as both the homeland of Turkish Cypriots and the guarantor country of Cyprus, emphasizing Turkey’s significant presence in the Eastern Mediterranean. He noted that the policy on the Cyprus issue has been strengthened amidst geopolitical and geostrategic developments in the region.
Addressing the attempts by certain interest groups to create discord among Turkish Cypriots, President Tatar emphasized the need to maintain national politics for the benefit of Turkey and the Turkish world. He reiterated the importance of defending national interests and unity in the face of external pressures.
President Tatar underscored the ongoing struggle for sovereignty and equal rights for Turkish Cypriots, stating that cooperation and mutual respect are essential for a sustainable agreement in Cyprus. He expressed readiness to engage in new negotiations with a focus on sovereign equality and equal international status for all parties involved.
As an observer member of the Organization of Turkish States, President Tatar affirmed the commitment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to safeguarding national interests in the region. He called for unity and collaboration within the Turkish Cypriot community to uphold their values and secure a prosperous future.
