New Air Corridor Connects Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Enhancing European-Asian Flight Routes

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Launch New Air Corridor T916

ASTANA – Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have recently introduced a new air corridor, T916, that will significantly enhance flight routes between Europe and Southeast Asia. The Civil Aviation Committee reported this strategic development on July 22, anticipating an increase in air traffic as airlines become more accustomed to the new route.

Despite only 19 flights having utilized the corridor since its establishment, it is predicted to become a vital pathway for international air travel in the near future. Various airlines have already taken advantage of the T916 corridor, such as Lufthansa Cargo from Germany, Cargolux from Luxembourg, Cargolux Italia from Italy, Nomad Aviation from Switzerland, Western Global Airlines from the United States, and Aerologic Cargo Airlines from Germany.

The total length of the T916 air corridor spans 2,187 kilometers, with 437 kilometers traversing through Uzbekistan’s airspace and the remaining 1,750 kilometers passing over Kazakhstan. This new air traffic service route was proposed by airlines and Uzbekistan’s air navigation provider, State Unitary Enterprise Center UzAeroNavigation, and has been included in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s preferred route catalog.

The introduction of this new corridor aims to make Kazakhstan’s airspace more attractive for foreign airlines and help alleviate the workload of air traffic controllers at the Kazaeronavigatsia Southeast Regional Air Traffic Management Center. As more flights begin utilizing the T916 corridor, it is expected to play a crucial role in streamlining air travel between Europe and Southeast Asia.
