New Beach Opening in Budapest: A Must-Visit Swimming Spot

Summer may be coming to an end, but residents and visitors to Budapest can still enjoy a refreshing swim at a newly reopened location on Lejtő Street. The renovated beach area, part of the Sas Gardens project, is now open to the public, offering a day ticket for HUF 5,500 (EUR 14) for full-price entry and a discounted rate of HUF 4,800 (EUR 12.18) for district residents.
The Sas Gardens complex, located near the Farkasrét Cemetery, has a rich history dating back to the 1960s when it was established as a sports facility by the Ministry of Agriculture. Over the years, it has undergone various changes in ownership and names, eventually landing in the hands of Clivus Plc. in 2021.
Owned by Zoltán Varga and Géza Homonnay, both tennis enthusiasts, Clivus Plc. has renovated the facility to include four tennis courts, new service facilities, locker rooms, a sports café, parking garages, and covered padel courts. Future plans include upgrades to the old guesthouse on the property, potentially offering health and wellness services alongside guest apartments.
While the beach area is now open for swimming, there are also talks of introducing synchronised swimming, with Csilla Homonnay, a Hungarian synchronised swimming champion, leading the way. Additionally, there are plans to offer season passes for frequent visitors next year.
So, as summer draws to a close, why not make the most of the warm weather and take a dip at Budapest’s newest beach location? Whether you’re a local resident or a tourist passing through, the renovated facilities at Lejtő Street offer a refreshing escape from the city hustle and bustle.
