New EuroVelo 6 Bike Path Segment Connects Dunaalmás and Neszmély

A new segment of the EuroVelo 6 international bike path has been inaugurated recently, connecting Dunaalmás and Neszmély in Komárom-Esztergom county, north of Tata, Hungary, near the River Danube. The 7.5-kilometre-long bike path runs along the floodplain of the Danube and was built by Hazai Építőgép Társulás Ltd, with two bridges, a railway overpass and two stops for bikers.

Máriusz Révész, government commissioner for an active Hungary, said that the EuroVelo 6 is of touristic importance, and 200,000 guests go to Vienna via the road. Thanks to the new development, some of them will travel to Budapest from the Austrian capital. Neszmély is closer to Budapest, but it still takes more than 84 kilometres to arrive at the city from there.

Bálint Nagy, secretary of the Construction and Transport Ministry, said the new bike path segment is unique as it runs in the floodplain of the Danube, making it attractive for cycling enthusiasts. Additionally, there is a network of connected bike paths in the county that connect Dunaalmás, Majk, Oroszlány, Tatabánya, and Tata.

The government of Hungary hoped that the new bike path would help the country to become the new centre of European cycling tourism. The inauguration event was attended by various local officials.

The EuroVelo 6 bike path is one of the longest and most well-known cycling routes in Europe, connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea. It passes through ten European countries, including Hungary, and is a popular destination for cyclists from all over the world.
