New Bus Seat Reservation System Coming to Hungary
Hungary Introduces New Seat Reservation System for Long-Distance Buses
Starting from 5 August, passengers traveling on long-distance Volánbusz services in Hungary will have the option to reserve a seat for a small fee. The new seat reservation system is replacing the previous supplementary ticket system and is aimed at improving passenger comfort during their journeys.
The seat reservation fee is a fixed amount of HUF 300 (EUR 0.75) or HUF 285 (EUR 0.71) for online purchases. Passengers can easily make reservations through the MÁV app, which now also offers bus tickets, or on the website jegy.mav.hu. Reservations can also be made at ticket offices and MÁV-START machines, as detailed by Volánbusz Plc.
Initially, the seat reservation service will be available for long-distance buses traveling to and from Budapest, with plans to expand to other cities in the future, according to reports from Portfolio. Having a reserved seat will guarantee passengers a place, especially during peak travel times.
The fixed seat reservation fee applies to all passengers regardless of travel distance, age, or ticket type. Online reservations through the MÁV app or website will provide a 5% discount, making them slightly cheaper at HUF 285 (EUR 0.71).
While reservation is not mandatory, it is highly recommended for busy routes to secure a guaranteed seat. Passengers without a reservation will only be able to occupy available seats on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reservations for buses departing on or after 5 August can be made through the latest version of the MÁV app, the jegy.mav.hu website, Volánbusz and MÁV-START ticket offices, or MÁV-START machines. It is important to note that the current online booking system, including its website, will only be available until 4 August.
With the introduction of this new seat reservation system, passengers can now enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free travel experience on long-distance buses in Hungary.
