New Direct Flight from Debrecen to Turkey Launched by Wizz Air

Wizz Air Launches Direct Flight from Debrecen to Istanbul

Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air has announced that it will be launching a direct flight from Debrecen to Istanbul starting April 14. The flights will operate on Wednesday and Sunday.

This new route will provide direct access from Debrecen to Istanbul, making it the second Turkish city to be directly accessible by air from the Hungarian city, alongside Antalya.

According to Tamás Vincze, Development Director of Debrecen International Airport, the Istanbul route is expected to yield excellent results, similar to the airline’s Rome route in recent years.

Zsuzsa Trubek, Communications Manager for Wizz Air, emphasized the airline’s commitment to strengthening the economic and tourism relations between Hungary and Turkey through the new route.

Wizz Air currently operates a fleet of 198 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and broke its previous passenger traffic record in 2023 by carrying over 60.3 million passengers, marking a 32 percent increase compared to 2022. In Hungary alone, Wizz Air flew 5.2 million passengers in 2023 from its bases in Budapest and Debrecen.

Istanbul, a city steeped in over 2,500 years of history, is a fascinating blend of Byzantine, Roman, and Ottoman traditions and cultures. As a city at the crossroads of two continents, it boasts a wealth of architectural, religious, and historical landmarks, making it a unique destination.

The launch of the new flight from Debrecen to Istanbul is expected to further enhance the connectivity between the two countries and contribute to the growth of tourism and economic ties.
