New Hungarian President Prioritizes Serving Country and Nation as Greatest Honor
President Tamás Sulyok was inaugurated as the new head of state on Sunday, emphasizing that serving the country and the nation is the greatest honor one can have. In his speech in front of Sándor Palace, he expressed his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the dignity of Hungarians.
Sulyok, who did not plan or prepare for this role, stated that he sees his presidency as a call to serve his country and follow in the footsteps of his predecessors while also paving his own path. He emphasized the importance of the Fundamental Law as the cornerstone of his work and vowed to represent the unity of the nation.
The new president highlighted the need for good relations with neighboring countries and close cooperation with Visegrád countries. He also expressed his concern for the well-being of Transcarpathian Hungarians in war-torn Ukraine and pledged to support people in freely living according to their national and cultural identity.
Furthermore, Sulyok stressed the importance of Christian culture, faith, and values in Hungarian society and Europe as a whole. He called for mutual respect between nations and individuals, emphasizing the need for honesty, trust, and dialogue in building a strong and functioning state.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and former presidents János Áder and Pál Schmitt. Overall, President Tamás Sulyok’s speech highlighted his commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, rule of law, and unity within the nation.
