New Judges Sworn in at Supreme Court Ceremony
Evren Mürsel and İzzet Erkanlı were officially sworn in as judges by the Supreme Court of Justice during a ceremony held this morning. The oath ceremony took place in the presence of Supreme Court President Narin Ferdi Şefik and the Supreme Court Board at the Supreme Court Council Meeting Hall.
During her speech at the ceremony, President Narin Ferdi Şefik extended her best wishes for success to the newly appointed judges. She expressed their excitement over new appointments and highlighted the heavy caseload burdening the current judges in the country. Şefik emphasized the need to increase the number of judges, pointing out that while the Courts Law allows for this in district courts, the number of Supreme Court Judges remains constant.
Addressing the persisting issue, Şefik announced plans for renovation on the ground floor of the Nicosia District Court. The renovations will result in the creation of space and the completion of two judge’s chambers and two halls, allowing for an increase in the number of judges in the district court.
Şefik expressed hope that the appointment of judges will continue at the desired rate and timing in the near future. Following her speech, the CVs of Evren Mürsel and İzzet Erkanlılar were read, and they took the oath, officially becoming appointed as Judges.
The ceremony marked an important milestone in the judicial system, ensuring the addition of new judges to alleviate the workload and strengthen the judiciary in the country. The Supreme Court of Justice remains committed to upholding justice and providing fair trials for all citizens.
