Tisza Party Leader Peter Magyar Promises to Secure €23 Billion in EU Funds
Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar has promised to secure 8,000 billion forints (approximately €23 billion) worth of EU funds for Hungary. In a statement on Friday, Magyar stated that this funding equated to “800,000 forints per person” and was crucial for the country’s development.
Magyar criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for what he described as “industrial-scale corruption”, accusing him of betraying his country and compatriots. He highlighted Orbán’s recent comments about the dangers of those who seek power and money, stating that it was a reflection of Orbán’s own actions.
The Tisza Party leader vowed to use the EU funds to support Hungarian companies and farmers, improve the healthcare system, enhance education, address the cost-of-living crisis, and combat inflation caused by Orbán’s policies. He asserted that Tisza was now the strongest political party in Hungary and pledged to “take back our country”.
Magyar also criticized Orbán for blaming the Tisza Party for Hungary’s loss of EU funds, noting that the funds had been frozen by Brussels before the party was formed. He accused Orbán of using tactics reminiscent of the communist era to deflect attention from his own corruption.
In response to Magyar’s statements, the communications director of ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrats, Tamas Menczer, called Magyar a “traitor”. Menczer accused Magyar of betraying his family and friends for personal gain and aligning with Brussels against the interests of Hungary.
As the political debate continues in Hungary, Magyar’s promises of securing EU funds and revitalizing the economy will be closely watched by both supporters and critics alike.
