A protocol has been signed for the “Old Kyrenia Municipality Building and Ramadan Cemil Square Public Space Arrangement Project Competition”.
The Kyrenia Municipality recently announced the signing of a protocol for a competition aimed at reimagining the Old Kyrenia Municipality Building and the Ramadan Cemil Square. The protocol signing ceremony took place at the Kyrenia Municipality Assembly Meeting Hall and was attended by Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul, KTMMOB Chairman of the Board of Directors Seran Aysal, former KTMMOB Chairman of the Board Tunç Adanır, and other officials from both institutions.
During the ceremony, Mayor Murat Şenkul highlighted the importance of adapting Ramadan Cemil Square to modern-day conditions and expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Union of Chambers of Turkish Cypriot Engineers and Architects. He emphasized the goal of creating a square that reflects the essence of Kyrenia.
KTMMOB President Seran Aysal praised the positive outcomes of previous competitions that brought various ideas and visions together. He acknowledged the significance of urban design competitions and thanked all those involved for their contributions.
Former KTMMOB President Tunç Adanır stressed the value of implementing projects through competitions, especially in public spaces, as it demonstrates a commitment to preserving the country’s heritage. He expressed gratitude for the decision to hold such a competition in Kyrenia.
The protocol signing marks the beginning of a process that includes the selection of the jury, defining participation criteria, setting competition deadlines, determining awards, and evaluating the projects submitted. The ultimate goal is to revitalize the Old Kyrenia Municipality Building and Ramadan Cemil Square to create a space that reflects the spirit of Kyrenia.
