
New Update: DNA test results reveal identity of body in the grave as Cem Garipoğlu

The case of Münevver Karabulut, who was killed by Cem Garipoğlu in Bahçeşehir on March 3, 2009, took a new turn recently. Garipoğlu, who had been on the run for a long time after the incident, was eventually arrested. However, on October 10, 2014, he was found dead in his jail cell.
There were doubts surrounding the identity of the deceased, leading the Karabulut family to request a fethi burial process through their lawyers. The family wanted to ensure that the individual buried was indeed Cem Garipoğlu.
Following forensic examination of bone fragments taken from Garipoğlu’s grave, the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the DNA analysis matched that of Cem Garipoğlu’s parents. This result effectively confirmed that the remains belonged to Cem Garipoğlu.
The statement released by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office clarified that the DNA profile of the person buried was a direct match to that of Cem Garipoğlu. This conclusion was reached after careful examination of bones, teeth, and other samples by experts at the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute.
The investigation brought closure to the case, confirming that the individual who had committed suicide in prison in 2014 was indeed Cem Garipoğlu. The family’s request for verification of the deceased’s identity was ultimately resolved through scientific analysis and forensic examination.
