New US Leadership Favors PM Orbán’s Patriots for Europe in Competition
The United States changed its leadership, which is now leaning towards conservative national forces, leading to implications for other Western countries, according to Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director. This shift has the potential to influence global political processes and tip the balance of power towards patriotic forces in Europe, including Hungary.
Orbán expressed optimism at the Patriots for Europe (PfE) grouping summit in Madrid, noting that the United States’ new administration is taking a different approach that could benefit conservative national forces. The Patriots have been successful in elections and have a significant chance of gaining power in Austria and Czechia, while already being in government in Italy and the Netherlands.
He criticized the European political elite for failing to address the needs of the people on issues such as war, sanctions, the green transition, competitiveness, the tax system, and migration. Orbán emphasized that the Patriots are the only opposition force to Brussels and the institutional system in Europe, meeting a growing demand for opposition in individual member states.
Discussing the upcoming German elections, Orbán highlighted the responsibility of the current governing coalition for the EU’s past decisions and noted that a majority of German voters are dissatisfied with their performance.
