New Wizz Air Flight Connects Hungary to Africa

Hungarian Parliament Discusses Air Traffic Agreement with Rwanda
The Hungarian Parliament held a session on Thursday to discuss a potential air traffic agreement between the governments of Hungary and Rwanda. This agreement, if implemented, is believed to strengthen the ties between Africa and Hungary, according to Budflyer.

Péter Ágh, a secretary of the construction and transport ministry, stated that the Rwandan cabinet had initiated contact with the Hungarian government regarding this issue. Additionally, a Rwandan airline is interested in serving the route between the two countries. However, in order for this to happen, a bilateral agreement must be established. Such an agreement would not only facilitate the transportation of goods and passengers but also connect all the airports in both nations.

Sándor F. Kovács, a member of the governing Fidesz party, highlighted Hungary’s successful Eastern and Southern opening, mentioning that the country has signed cooperation agreements with twenty African nations in recent years. It is believed that this air traffic agreement with Rwanda will further enhance Hungary’s regional ties. Notably, Hungary’s aid to Chad, one of the world’s poorest countries, has been seen as an effort to garner support from French President Emmanuel Macron, whose regional ally is Chad.

In addition to the discussions about Rwanda, Budflyer also mentioned the possibility of renewing Hungary’s air traffic agreement with Ethiopia. Budapest Airport and Ethiopian Airlines are currently in talks to establish a direct flight connection between the two countries.

Furthermore, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has recommended that Wizz Air, Hungary’s low-cost carrier, create a direct flight between Budapest and Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It is expected that a similar approach might be taken in the case of Rwanda once the bilateral agreement is signed.

Overall, the potential air traffic agreement between Hungary and Rwanda signifies the Hungarian government’s efforts to forge stronger connections with African nations.
