NGOs Host “World Environment Day” Event on June 5 – BRTK

Non-governmental organizations in the country came together to organize a special event in honor of “5 June World Environment Day.” The event, held in cooperation with Always Friends of Nature, Cyprus Wetland Community, Social Existence Association, Karpaz Friends Association, and Chamber of Landscape Architects, featured a presentation by Environmental Education and Management Specialist Dr. Asuman Korukoğlu.
During the event, Dr. Korukoğlu highlighted the destruction of nature at Glapsides, a special protection zone, where concrete was poured and unsuitable landscaping arrangements were made. Shockingly, these actions were carried out by the municipality, raising concerns about the lack of conservation efforts.
Dr. Korukoğlu emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in ecosystem restoration and the critical role of raising awareness. While non-governmental organizations are doing their part, the authorities also play a crucial role in protecting the environment.
Yusuf Şentuğ, President of Always Friends of Nature, expressed gratitude towards Dr. Korukoğlu and all those who contributed to the event. He stressed the significance of ecosystem restoration in combating issues like drought and desertification, essential for environmental sustainability and human well-being.
The event served as a platform to raise awareness and advocate for greater conservation efforts to protect our natural environment. It called for collective action from both individuals and authorities to ensure the preservation and restoration of ecosystems for the benefit of all.
