A close call at the beach: 9 people saved from drowning in 3 hours
The popular 3-kilometer-long blue flag beach in the Inkumu resort was packed with holidaymakers enjoying the sun and sand over the weekend. However, the peaceful scene quickly turned into a dangerous situation as waves reaching 2 meters high formed in the sea, putting many swimmers at risk.
Between 09:00 and 12:00, a total of 9 people found themselves in danger of drowning. Thanks to the quick action of lifeguards and bystanders, all 9 individuals were successfully rescued. One heart-stopping moment was captured on camera as a citizen who was swept away by the powerful waves was rescued with the help of a rope.
In response to the alarming situation at sea, the Bartın Governorship issued a ban on swimming at the Inkumu, Güzelcehisar, and Mugada beaches. In Inkumu, gendarmerie teams and lifeguards were on high alert, blowing whistles and swiftly rescuing anyone who attempted to enter the sea.
Over at Güzelcehisar Beach, teams from the Coast Guard Command made announcements at sea, urging citizens to evacuate the water. The situation was further complicated by the forecasted increase in wind strength later in the afternoon, adding to the already dangerous conditions.
