North Korea Launches Short-Range Ballistic Missiles, Sparks International Concern
According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, North Korea has conducted multiple short-range ballistic missile launches from the Wonsan region. These missile tests occurred between 08:10 and 09:20 local time, with the missiles traveling in a northeastern direction and reaching a maximum altitude of 100 kilometers. They ultimately fell into the Sea of Japan, covering an approximate distance of 800 kilometers.
The South Korean Chief of General Staff emphasized that surveillance operations are ongoing in conjunction with the United States and Japan, with these nations closely sharing information to monitor North Korean activities.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense stated that all launched missiles were anticipated to land outside of the national exclusive economic zone, minimizing immediate concerns regarding their trajectory.
U.S. Condemnation of North Korean Actions
In response to these missile tests, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Forces Command (Indopacom) expressed its condemnation of North Korea’s actions. The command issued a statement urging North Korea to refrain from further unlawful and destabilizing initiatives. Despite the provocative nature of the missile launches, Indopacom assured that they did not pose a threat to U.S. military personnel, territory, or allies in the region.
