Oktay Criticizes TRNC Authorities’ Lack of Opinion on UN Peace Force Mandate Extension

AK Party Ankara Deputy Fuat Oktay has expressed his criticism over the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Peace Force in Cyprus, stating that the opinions of the TRNC authorities were not taken into consideration. Oktay made these comments during a meeting of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee.
In his address, Oktay drew attention to the developments in Cyprus and emphasized that the failure to seek the opinion of the TRNC authorities during the extension of the mandate, as well as the one-sided and unrealistic claims in the decision text, underscore the importance of supporting the TRNC.
“We support the statements and attitudes of the TRNC authorities on this issue,” Oktay said.
The Deputy’s remarks highlight the ongoing complexities and political tensions surrounding the Cyprus issue, as well as the significance of ensuring that all relevant parties are included in decision-making processes related to the region.
Oktay’s criticism sheds light on the need for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing the complexities and challenges in Cyprus, emphasizing the importance of taking into account the perspectives and opinions of all stakeholders in the region.
