Ombudsman İlkan Varol Investigates Healthcare Professional Transfers
Ombudsman İlkan Varol recently announced a report following an application made by the President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Officials Union (KTAMS), Güven Bengihan, regarding the place of duty and transfer of healthcare professionals.
The report revealed that Nurse Transfer Boards were established in accordance with legislation, but there was an excess of authority in non-transfer assignments. Varol mentioned that Bengihan raised concerns about changes in the places of duty of some public health workers, claiming that recent assignments and transfers within health institutions and districts were not compliant with the law.
Upon investigation, Varol found that changes in location in 2021 were carried out through transfer and non-transfer assignments. He emphasized that Nurse Transfer Boards held by the Ministry of Health in 2021 were conducted in accordance with the legislation.
Varol also pointed out that it is unlawful for the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and the Director of the Department of Inpatient Treatment Institutions to make assignments other than transfers. He stated that such assignments should be made by the minister and not by individuals with lesser authority.
